On February 5 the palace confirmed that cancer had been discovered as a result of a January surgery for a benign enlarged prostate.

The palace statement read: “His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”

Charles became regent upon the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022 and was coronated in May 2023.

Charles has made it a point to appear in public a few times, and he has seemed as upbeat and fit as possible, given the situation.
