On April 29, Prince William and Princess Kate will be celebrating their 13th wedding anniversary. As they prepare to do so, royal expert Robert Hardman has decided to give fans a glimpse back at the engagement that drove people wild and of course led to the wedding of the century.
According to Robert Hardman, the announcement of a Royal engagement is usually the “starting gun” for what will be followed by months of anticipation.
“When a royal couple tell us they’re engaged, we’re fascinated by everything from the dress design to who the bridesmaids and best man will be and where we’re going to watch it” he explained. “People love to makea day of it with street parties and things, so there’s huge interest from the word go.”

At the time, William and Kate chatted with ITV’s Tom Bradby and shared how a romantic Kenyan trip saw William get down on one knee and propose to the love of his life. For the proposal, he used the engagement ring his father had used to propose to his late mother, Princess Diana.
“It is the place my father took my brother and me shortly after our mother died” William shared at the time, according to OK!. “And when deciding where best to propose to Catherine, I could think of no more fitting place than Kenya to get down on one knee.”
Before finally deciding on the perfect time and place to pop the all-important question, he had carried the ring, crafted by Royal jeweller Garrard, in a rucksack for three weeks. Can you imagine that?
