20 Times Kate Middleton Mastered the Art of Styling Knee-High Boots

kate middleton in red scarfIf any celebrity out there has a shoe collection we’re jealous of, it’s gotta be Kate Middleton, especially when it comes to her boots. Whether she’s going casual, dressing up for a fancy royal function, or just trying to stay warm in the cold, the Duchess of Cambridge’s knee-high boots have never let her down. Some are super simple, some have tassels (one of her most worn pairs, FYI), and some have tall stiletto heels. But no matter what type of knee-high boot Kate’s wearing, she looks amazing, and somehow, they always make whatever her look happens to be at the time look so put together.

Of course, the Duchess of Cambridge is a royal style icon for a reason — she’s known for her impeccable wardrobe and accessories. But seeing the outfits she chooses to wear each day also happens to give us inspiration for our own wardrobe, especially when it comes to figuring out how to style our own boots for chilly weather.

Read on for 20 times Kate looked good in her knee-high boots. There’s such a variety in all of these outfits that we’re convinced they go with just about anything.

Down on the Farm
What better occasion to wear casual knee-high boots than while visiting a farm? This photo of Kate from 2017 shows her perfectly dressed for the occasion — which was watching kids work with farm animals — in a warm jacket, jeans, and of course, her boots.

A Suit & Boots

Kate showed off this skirt suit ensemble during a royal visit to Wales in 2017, and adding the boots to her look definitely pulled the whole thing together — especially since it was February and likely a pretty cold day in the UK! Red is definitely her color.

A Tartan Moment

When she’s traveling, Kate frequently dresses in a way to acknowledge the trends and customs in the country she’s visiting, so of course she wore this tartan outfit during a 2013 visit to Scotland — hard to believe that was almost 10 years ago! Paired with the boots, Kate looks perfectly chic.

Working Girl

Now this is a throwback! Here’s Kate, on her way home from work in 2007 — years before she’d become a member of the royal family and being the Duchess of Cambridge would be her job. Her look is dated now, but it was totally in back in the early 2000s, and this outfit would have been perfectly suited for work

Saying Hello in Ireland

What did we say about Kate making sure she was dressed to honor the place she’s visiting? It’s no surprise that she was wearing this polka dot green dress while on tour in Ireland with William in March 2020, with boots that complemented the belt she’s wearing.

The Great Outdoors

During that same trip to Ireland, Kate packed multiple pairs of knee-high boots, including these brown ones that she pulled out when she and William visited a grassland and animal research center. Walking around in the dirt on a cloudy day definitely calls for a solid pair of boots.

A Visit to Wales

Kate is the queen of pulling a look together with just the right accessories, and this look is a perfect example of that. When she and William visited Wales in February 2020, she wore a red dress with a navy coat, her boots (of course) and a red and white scarf that tied everything together.

Boots & a Jacket

As if this red jacket with gold buttons isn’t gorgeous enough, it somehow managed to dress up her entire look, even though she was wearing black jeans (instead of something more formal) to visit with the Royal Air Force in 2017. There are few looks better than boots and jeans.

Ready for Adventure

Leave it to Kate to look so stylish even when she’s going on a hike! This pic was snapped during her and Will’s trip to India and Bhutan, and here, she’s getting ready to explore the grounds around a monastery. The boots, the vest — we’re loving everything about this look.

The Good Old Days

This definitely has to be one of Kate’s most casual looks ever — which makes a lot of sense when we realize that it was taken before she was a royal! Here, Will is catching up with Kate and her sister, Pippa, long before they were married, and Kate looks perfectly cool in her jeans and boots.

Shades of Brown

In this photo from 2013, Kate is making neutrals work for her. Sure, they’re more of Meghan Markle’s thing these days, but seeing Kate in different shades of brown (including her tall boots) reminds us that she can pull off a similar look just as well.

Get Well Soon

How is it possible that even when Kate’s feeling under the weather, she dresses this well? Here, Kate sported a pair of knee-high boots when she and William were seen leaving the hospital after she’d been treated for hyperemesis gravidarum while she was pregnant with Prince George.

Hitting the Beach

When visiting the beach while the weather is still chilly, what perfect all-terrain footwear should Kate wear? Of course, her tassel boots, which definitely seem to be a favorite of hers. And for good reason: They’re adorable, they go with anything, and they’re great for whatever the day calls for, including walking on the sand.

Playing Hockey

OK, now this is impressive! Kate wore knee-high boots with heels when she visited her former school, St. Andrew’s, and even got on the field to play hockey with the students — a sport she played when she was a student there. Looks like she’s still got it!

Out With Lupo

We’re still heartbroken that the Cambridges lost their dog, Lupo, but they have plenty of memories of him that have been captured forever, like this one. Here’s Kate at a 2012 charity polo match with Lupo, in her jeans, boots, and jacket. This is so sweet!

Among the Wildlife

When Kate knows she’s about to spend a day outdoors, the boots come on! Here she is, wearing one of her most common color combos (and outfits) while visiting a wildlife center in 2018. She looks so cute — and like she’s ready for anything that comes her way.

A Sweater Dress & Boots

Look at these newlyweds! Here’s Will and Kate, less than a year into their marriage at the end of 2011, as they visited a charity called Centrepoint together. We’re loving Kate’s totally 2011s sweater dress, chunky belt, and boots combo. Can’t forget the tights, either!

Total Cowgirl

We’ll probably never see Kate in an outfit like this again, which makes this photo all the more priceless! Taken in 2005, when Kate was 23 years old, she’s attending the Festival of British Eventing, decked out in jeans, a cowboy hat, and her favorite tassel boots.

Black & Brown

Who says black and brown can’t be worn together? Here, Kate’s totally pulling that color combo off. She paired her dark brown boots with black jeans, along with a matching sweater and jacket, and she looked fab while attending an event about gardening in schools in 2017.

A Little Bit Dressy

Later in 2017, Kate decided to dress in black again — though this time around, she did end up pairing her black dress and tights with black boots instead of brown. She was visiting the Jaguar Land Rover Manufacturing Plant, so of course she had to look a little bit classy!
